JEFF BECK RELEASES ‘EMOTION AND COMMOTION’ NEW CD FOR NEW LABEL RHINO WITH SPECIAL DELUXE EDITION

March 26, 2010 by Your Way To Music
Filed under New Releases - CD's

For his first studio album in seven years, Grammy-winning guitarist Jeff Beck returns with an eclectic mix of tracks that find the guitar virtuoso accompanied by a handpicked cast of talented musicians, as well as several songs accompanied by a 64-piece orchestra. Rhino unleashes the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s restless genius with EMOTION & COMMOTION. The album will be available on Atco Records, an imprint of Rhino Entertainment, on April 12 in Europe and April 13 at all retail outlets.

Beck recorded EMOTION & COMMOTION late last year at Sarm Studios in London with award-winning producers Steve Lipson and Trevor Horn. To create the album’s diverse sound, Beck used a number of musicians, including appearances by frequent collaborators Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), Jason Rebello (keyboards), and Tal Wilkenfeld (bass). The album also includes contributions from a trio of singers: Imelda May (“Lilac Wine”), Olivia Safe (“Elegy For Dunkirk”), and Grammy-winner Joss Stone (“I Put A Spell On You” and “There’s No Other Me”).

To complement the innovative tones he coaxes from his guitar, Beck recorded with a 64-piece orchestra on songs that range from Puccini’s immortal aria “Nessun Dorma” and “Elegy For Dunkirk” from the film “Atonement” to “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” from “The Wizard Of Oz” and Jeff Buckley’s interpretation of “Corpus Christi Carol.”

Beck says the idea of pairing his guitar with an orchestra evolved from the version of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 he recorded a few years ago. “It turned out amazingly well, but I didn’t want to commit to an entire album of classical music. What appealed to me instead was the idea of bringing together these seemingly contradictory sounds on different kinds of nonclassical music.”

In addition to the orchestral pieces, EMOTION & COMMOTION showcases a number of original compositions. For “Hammerhead,” Beck fires the rocker’s opening salvo through his wah-wah pedal before falling into a deep groove carved out by the rhythm section and horn arrangement. At the opposite end of the sonic spectrum, the airy arrangement that elevates “Never Alone” provides a wide-angle soundscape for Beck’s imagination to freely explore the high-flying melody.

Before launching a world tour to support EMOTION & COMMOTION, Beck will unite with Eric Clapton in February for a series of exclusive shows in London, New York City, Toronto, and Montreal. The guitarists — both former members of the Yardbirds — will play separately before taking the stage to perform together.

After the shows with Clapton, Beck will play South Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, and Japan before returning to America for the U.S. leg of the tour starting mid-April and including an appearance at the New Orleans Jazz Festival on May 1.

For Beck, the new album and tour follows in the wake of a triumphant 2009 — his most successful year ever. Among the many highlights were a sold-out world tour; his second induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; the release of the platinum-selling “Performing This Week… Live At Ronnie Scott’s,” which earned a Grammy nomination for “A Day In The Life”; and magnificent performances with his band at the 25th Anniversary Concert of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden.

TIME LIFE CELEBRATES THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME WITH A LANDMARK DVD COLLECTION OF 125 HISTORIC INDUCTION CEREMONY PERFORMANCES

This Fall, Time Life commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame with an unprecedented, comprehensive collection of performances compiled from a quarter century of induction celebrations. The ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME LIVE DVD collection boasts 125 remarkable performances by the most influential and significant figures in rock music history, as well as the speeches, toasts and roasts by which these members of rock royalty salute each others’ accomplishments. History is made when legendary artists such as Mick Jagger and Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen and Bono, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Tom Petty, take the stage for once-in-a-lifetime collaborations. The ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME LIVE set includes nine DVDs, eight of these featuring an assortment of performances spanning more than two decades of ceremonies, as well as induction and acceptance speeches, and never-before-seen backstage and rehearsal footage. A ninth DVD features The Concert For The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, a star-studded concert event which opened the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland in 1995.

Never before available, the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME LIVE DVD set is an unparalleled rock ‘n’ roll experience – over 24 hours of rare and exclusive performances and footage – and a must-own for every music fan.

On October 20, the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME LIVE 9-DVD set will be available for purchase exclusively online for $119.96 via the DVD website www.RockHallDVDs.com or www.TimeLife.com.

Each year, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honors rock music’s pioneering figures during prestigious, black-tie ceremonies. Rock’s biggest stars induct their biggest influences and contemporaries, with heartfelt, wise and witty speeches. Over the years, Paul McCartney has inducted John Lennon, Paul Simon has inducted Stevie Wonder, Steven Tyler has
inducted AC/DC, Elton John has inducted The Beach Boys, and in turn, Elton John was inducted by Axl Rose. ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME LIVE includes a staggering 52 of these tributes, all complete and unedited. But, it’s during the live performance part of the ceremony when rock history is really made.

With egos set aside, the artists take the stage and deliver once-in-a-lifetime performances, often with a truly mind-blowing combination of talent, such as Mick Jagger performing with Bruce Springsteen, REM with Eddie Vedder, The Band with Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck with Jimmy Page. As Robbie Robertson once commented, “It’s an opportunity to see musical combinations we may never see again as long as we live,” Case in point, 1988’s ceremony featured a jaw-dropping performance of The Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There” with George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, John Fogerty, Mick Jagger and Billy Joel. The ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME LIVE DVD set includes 125 of these musically historic performances, from Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry rockin’ “Roll Over Beethoven” at the inaugural ceremony in 1986, to Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Ron Wood, Joe Perry, Flea, and Metallica’s rendition of “The Train Kept A-Rollin’” at this year’s ceremony in April. As a bonus, a ninth DVD contains the 1996 Concert For The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame featuring an all-star line-up including John Mellencamp, Bon Jovi, Lou Reed, Soul Asylum, The Allman Brothers, Sheryl Crow, The Kinks, Ann and Nancy Wilson, John Fogerty, James Brown and Al Green.

The Rock and Roll of Fame Foundation and Museum’s anniversary celebration will extend beyond the DVD set, with both a book and two groundbreaking concerts this fall. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: The First 25 Years, chronicling 25 years of induction ceremonies, will be published by Collins Design (an imprint of HarperCollins) in September. In October, the Hall of Fame will present two live concert events at Madison Square Garden in New York, featuring performances by Eric Clapton, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Aretha Franklin, Metallica, Paul Simon, Simon & Garfunkel, Stevie Wonder, and U2.

About the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and Museum: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation was established 25 years ago by legendary record executive Ahmet Ertegun and a group of music business executives to honor the artists that have defined rock and roll and have inspired and continue to inspire a generation. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is the nonprofit organization that exists to educate visitors, fans and scholars from around the world about the history and continuing significance of rock and roll music. It carries out this mission both through its operation of a world-class museum designed by I.M. Pei in Cleveland, Ohio that collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets this art form and through its library and archives as well as educational programs.

HARVEY GOLDSMITH IS JEFF BECK’S NEW MANAGER

January 28, 2009 by Your Way To Music

Jeff Beck will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland on April 4 after a 40 year career that has seen him revered as one the world’s most influential musicians.

“It’s a great thrill to be recognised by the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, especially for the 25th anniversary,” says Beck, “Nobody makes music for the honours but to take a place alongside so many of your own heroes is an indescribable feeling. I’m a very humbled and proud man right now.”

The induction ceremony comes to Cleveland for the first time to celebrate 25 years of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Fellow inductees include Little Anthony & The Imperials, Metallica, Run-D.M.C. and Bobby Womack.

Beck also announces today that Harvey Goldsmith CBE will manage him. It represents a return to management for Britain’s most famous and influential promoter, who has worked with the greats of music from The Who to Luciano Pavarotti.

Beck is one of the UK’s true music heroes, a visionary musician and guitar god admired by everyone from Eric Clapton, who he famously succeeded in The Yardbirds, to Morrissey, on whose new album Beck appears.

He is recognised by his peers as perhaps the greatest guitarist of them all and has already been inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Yardbirds.

After The Yardbirds, Beck formed the Jeff Beck Group in 1967 with Ronnie Wood on bass, Aynsley Dunbar drumming and Rod Stewart on vocals. They were credited with forging a blueprint later followed by heavy metal. Since then, he has explored jazz, rock and pop to acclaim and massive respect for his innovative work.

In the 1970s, Beck worked with Beatles producer George Martin on jazz-fusion albums that redefined the rock guitar, before moving into electronic music with keyboardist Jan Hammer.

On recent albums, he has worked with electronica outfit Apollo 440 and David Torn from New York trip-hop group Splattercell. To underline his eclectic admirers, Joss Stone and Imogen Heap joined Beck on stage at London’s Ronnie Scott’s club last year.

In February, Beck will play with Eric Clapton at two historic joint performances at Japan’s Saitama Super Arena.

Jeff Beck:
“I have known Harvey for a long time and we met again at the Classic Rock awards at the end of last year.
“Soon after I decided I wanted a change in my career so I approached Harvey in December. It’s a great team and we have big plans, including new material and more performances.”

Harvey Goldsmith:
“I have always thought that Jeff is an incredible musician. I’ve worked with him many times over the years.
“Jeff asked me to dinner, where he told me he wanted a change in his working life. He said that he wanted to perform more and look for new opportunities. I thought about it overnight and felt that I could be of help. I’m very excited about working with Jeff, it will be a great partnership.
“He is raring to go and his band are incredible, just brilliant. There should be a new album by the end of the year and who knows where we can go with that.”

Jeff Beck’s band are an extraordinary outfit. Tal Wilkenfeld is a 20 year old Australian bass prodigy, while drummer Vinnie Colaiuta is reputed to be best drummer in the world. Keyboardist David Sancious was in Bruce Springsteen’s original E Street Band and has played with everyone from Sting to Yousou Ndour.

Jeff Beck’s DVD and Blu-Ray “Performing This Week… Live At Ronnie Scott’s” is released March 30th by Eagle Rock. A celebration of his acclaimed five nights of gigs last year, it features guests Joss Stone and Imogen Heap, as well as Clapton. The CD version is out now.

Jeff Beck’s agents remain Phil Banfield at Coda in the UK and Rob Light at CAA in the USA.

MORRISSEY’S ‘YEARS OF REFUSAL’ FEATURES JEFF BECK

January 24, 2009 by Your Way To Music
Filed under New Releases - CD's

Morrissey will release “Years of Refusal” in the UK on February 16 and the US February 17, 2009 on Attack/Lost Highway. “Years of Refusal” will be Morrissey’s first studio album since 2006’s UK #1 “Ringleader of the Tormentors”. In February, Morrissey will begin the US leg of his world tour that includes rare intimate club dates.

The late Jerry Finn, who previously worked on 2004’s critical and commercial smash “You Are the Quarry”, produced “Years of Refusal” which is the last album he worked on. The single “I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris”, which Morrissey debuted during his sold out 2007 world tour, will precede the album. Long time band members Boz Boorer, Jesse Tobias, Matt Walker, and Solomon Walker play on the album, which also features a contribution from Jeff Beck on the track “Black Cloud”.

Morrissey is often recognized as the most important British musician of his generation. The New York Times recently stated, ”Morrissey isn’t just any singer: he has become one of the defining rock stars of the past few decades by virtue of his grand voice, his grander songs, and his charming habit of playing with melodrama”. His influence is felt worldwide through the countless artists that cite him as their primary inspiration. “Years of Refusal” is a masterful work that finds Morrissey and the band at their best with a muscular sound and the inimitable voice and lyrics of a legend.
