“” Ry Cooder will release on Nonesuch/Perro Verde Records on 8/30. Ry continues to probe the difficult topics of class politics, race relations, and big business’ assault on American society. With a fine and righteous anger, Ry aims his guitar squarely at injustice, malfeasance and the kleptocracy that currently dominates our political landscape.
The lead off single “No Banker Left Behind”, savagely skewers Wall St fat cats who board a luxury rail car and set off leaving us of lesser means to pick up the pieces of their excess.
Also included is a hilarious and biting scenario of John Lee Hooker running for president.
Ry Cooder will perform an ultra rare pair of dates at SF’s famed Great American Music Hall on 8/31 and 9/1. These dates will feature Los Cenzontles, a local Mexican folkloric troupe. These shows, along with his appearance at the Arhoolie 50th anniversary shows back in February, mark very significant changes in Ry’s longstanding reluctance and publicly voiced dislike of live performance. Whatever his reasoning is, audiences are ecstatic that the long drought appears to be waning. The dust, however, is here to stay.
