ROCKPILE LIVE AT MONTREUX 1980 CD

Eagle Records are delighted to announce the release of the “Live At Montreux 1980” album [Cat No. EAGCD452] from Rockpile on 22 August 2011. This release is part of a batch of high profile Montreux audio releases for summer 2011. “Live At Montreux 1980” is the only live Rockpile album ever released and includes the hit singles “I Knew The Bride”, “Queen Of Hearts”, “Girls Talk”, “Crawling From The Wreckage”, “I Hear You Knocking” and many more.

Rockpile was formed in the mid-seventies by Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds. Due to contractual obligations, Lowe and Edmunds had to record for different labels so the Rockpile name was only used when the band played live even though they performed on records by both artists. Playing at Montreux in July 1980, the band were at their peak following the simultaneous release in 1979 of Nick Lowe’s “Labour Of Lust” and Dave Edmunds’ “Repeat When Necessary”. They had enjoyed a string of hit singles, most of which are included here, and were surfing on a tide of critical acclaim. Ahead of them lay the prospect of finally releasing an album under the Rockpile name, “Seconds Of Pleasure”, which would appear in autumn the same year. Sadly it proved to be the only album ever released as Rockpile as the band broke up soon after.

Comments

  1. Guy Neal Williams, it was nice to read your recollection of that night at the Fox Theater many years ago because I was there and had the same experience. I’m really looking forward to this CD and hope there are other live CD/DVDs in the works

  2. Guy Neal Williams says:

The only time I ever had an opportunity to Rockpile was in 1980 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta opening (go figure) for Blondie. They were stunning. Rock and Roll legend holds that they were kicked off the Blondie tour because they were so good they left the headliner in the shade. They certainly did that night. I saw them loading their gear afterward and just gawked in awe; I wish I’d said hello — but I hadn’t learned yet that such great musicians were also _people_.

  3. Sputnik says:

Would you please also put out the other acts that performed that day/weekend? The Clive Langer and the Boxes show before Rockpile and the Elvis Costello show after Rockpile were also excellent and worth purchasing.

They were videotaping that entire event that weekend so is a DVD too much to ask for?

  4. Marty Koppel says:

I am so looking forward to this album. I was heartbroken when these guys broke up.

  5. JANVIER MUSSON says:

IS IT AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA YET? I’D LIKE TO GET A COPY.

  6. Martin Schreiber says:

. . . well, i thought it would never happen. thanks a million for releasing this great, great rockpile gig! i can hardly wait to give this cd a spin. BUT: why on earth are the opening tracks with carlene carter omitted? AND: where’s the dvd companion of the concert? listening to rockpile is one thing – watching ‘em play is even more entertaining. so, how much longer do we have to wait for that now?
