At Last … The Beginning: The Making Of Electric Ladyland documents the creation of Hendrixís groundbreaking 1968 double album and presents some of Jimiís closest associatesí remembrances of the album, its development and lasting influence.
Jimi Hendrix Experience bassist Noel Redding, drummer Mitch Mitchell, and co-manager Chas Chandler detailed their contributions while engineer Eddie Kramer reexamined the many multi-track tapes created during the sessions for Electric Ladyland. Help from Jimiís ëfriends and passengersí came by way of new interviews with Experience Tour Manager Gerry Stickells, musicians Buddy Miles, Jack Casady, Dave Mason, Steve Winwood, Mike Finnigan, Velvert Turner, arranger Larry Fallon, Scene Club Manager Jim Marron, Miami Pop Festival [and later Woodstock] promoter Michael Lang, Experience roadie Neville Chesters, Track Records Co-Founder Chris Stamp. Record Plant Co-Owner Chris Stone, photographer David Montgomery and Trixie Sullivan, a key member of Michael Jeffreyís management staff.
At Last … The Beginning: The Making Of Electric Ladyland also provides a wealth of archival footage and photographs. Noel Redding contributed some of his fascinating 8mm film footage of The Experience to the production, providing some unique insights to the fast and furious life of The Experience as they balanced extensive recording and touring schedules throughout this period.
This newly edited and expanded documentary features almost 40 minutes of additional content not seen in the original feature.

I’m a little confused…”Electric Ladyland” the 40th anniversary edition was released by Universal in 2008 accompanied by “The Making of Electric Ladyland” DVD with 40 additional minutes not seen on the original release…according to the aricle regarding the release of “Valleys of Neptune” due on March 9th 2010…this will be on the Sony/Legacy label….the article also states Sony/Legacy will be also be reissuing the first 3 Hendrix’s releases which includes “Electric Ladyland”..all 3 will have an accompanying DVD…so does this make the 2008 reissue of “Electric Ladyland” obsolete ? Does Sony/Legacy now have the rights to the complete Hendrix catalog ?.. if anybody can clear this up I would greatly appreciate it…

yes, Experience Hendrix moved over from Universal to Sony late last year. the new version of Electric Ladyland is supposedly the same mastering as the Universal edition, so as far as we know there will be no reason to buy the new edition.
If we hear anything different, we will report it.
