ALLMAN BROTHERS GO LIVE ON THE WEB
January 30, 2009 by Your Way To Music
About five years ago, Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks realized that the current model of the music industry wasn’t working. After pondering the possibility of a new alternative to that model, he had a vision of an online music community where people could see and hear live shows with outstanding audio and video quality from the privacy of their homes. That vision, which seemed so futuristic just a few short years ago, has come to life. The time has come for Moogis.
Yes, it’s true, Moogis is here! The website at www.moogis.com is up and running and taking subscriptions for the entire upcoming Beacon run. With this year’s Beacon shows marking the 40th Anniversary of the ABB, you know these shows are going to be epic, and with Moogis you can see every show for less than the airfare to New York! Imagine seeing all the special guests and legendary performances as they happen, every memorable moment and exciting jam, without having to wait in line at the bathroom or put up with the obnoxious guy in the seat next to you spilling his beer in your lap.
The band has some special surprises up their sleeve for this run, but of course Butch isn’t letting the cat out of the bag. “I won’t reveal who’ll be jamming with us, because we like to keep those types of things a surprise,” says Trucks. “But I know it’s going to be one of the epic music events of the ages.”
Besides being able to watch the shows live, in real time, on your computer or TV, the shows will be archived and you will be able to watch them any time you want over the next six months. Besides the Beacon, Moogis members get access to all kinds of rare audio and video of the Allman Brothers, including the historic Piedmont Park show from 2007. Click here to see a video with Butch Trucks himself explaining what Moogis is and what he hopes it will become.
Going forward, Moogis hopes to build a real online community where people can interact and share the live music experience with each other. They are planning on wiring six different clubs throughout the country for live Moogis broadcasts, a different one every day of the week. In other words, if you thought Moogis was just about the Allman Brothers Band, think again. Be sure to check Moogis out in the social graph where you can connect with other Moogis fans, discuss and share great content, and be the first to know about new events, videos and other cool stuff as soon as it’s available!

PAUL JONES RELEASES NEW SOLO ALBUM WITH SPECIAL GUEST ERIC CLAPTON
January 30, 2009 by Your Way To Music

Carla Olson has produced a new album by British Invasion legend Paul Jones - the singer of the Manfred Mann hits Do Wah Diddy Diddy, Sha La La, Pretty Flamingo, The One In The Middle, My Little Red Book, If You Gotta Go – Go Now, Oh No Not My Baby, Come Tomorrow, 5-4-3-2-1…
Paul is also the lead singer of The Blues Band and the co-lead singer of The Manfreds and has had two BBC radio programs for decades.
The album was mostly recorded in Los Angeles but a few overdubs were recorded at Olympic Studios in London.
‘Collectors’ Choice Music’ will be releasing the new album, Starting All Over Again, on 13 march. The album was made with a glittering cast including Austin guitar stalwart Jake Andrews, legendary saxman Ernie Watts, Hollies vocalist Mikael Rickfors, Neil Young bassist Tony Marsico, Stevie Wonder (among others) drummer Alvino Bennett, Eagles keyboardist Mike Thompson and two guys you may have heard of, soul legend Percy Sledge and guitarist uber-legend ERIC CLAPTON (Paul and Eric actually teamed back in the ’60s in the short-lived group Powerhouse on our ‘What’s Shakin” reissue)! EC actually appears on two cuts here, ‘Choose or Cop Out’ and the title track, while Paul duets with Percy on the bonus track, ‘Big Blue Diamonds’. The other tracks, which range from swingin’ to smoldering, bluesy to boppin’, include ‘Lover to Cry; If You Love Me (Like You Say); Sundown; I’m Gone; Philosopher’s Stone; Still True; Need to Know; Gratefully Blue; When He Comes’, and ‘Alvino’s Entourage’. All produced under the watchful eyes (and ears) of CCM label artist Carla Olson.

HARVEY GOLDSMITH IS JEFF BECK’S NEW MANAGER
January 28, 2009 by Your Way To Music
Jeff Beck will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland on April 4 after a 40 year career that has seen him revered as one the world’s most influential musicians.
“It’s a great thrill to be recognised by the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, especially for the 25th anniversary,” says Beck, “Nobody makes music for the honours but to take a place alongside so many of your own heroes is an indescribable feeling. I’m a very humbled and proud man right now.”
The induction ceremony comes to Cleveland for the first time to celebrate 25 years of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Fellow inductees include Little Anthony & The Imperials, Metallica, Run-D.M.C. and Bobby Womack.
Beck also announces today that Harvey Goldsmith CBE will manage him. It represents a return to management for Britain’s most famous and influential promoter, who has worked with the greats of music from The Who to Luciano Pavarotti.
Beck is one of the UK’s true music heroes, a visionary musician and guitar god admired by everyone from Eric Clapton, who he famously succeeded in The Yardbirds, to Morrissey, on whose new album Beck appears.
He is recognised by his peers as perhaps the greatest guitarist of them all and has already been inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Yardbirds.
After The Yardbirds, Beck formed the Jeff Beck Group in 1967 with Ronnie Wood on bass, Aynsley Dunbar drumming and Rod Stewart on vocals. They were credited with forging a blueprint later followed by heavy metal. Since then, he has explored jazz, rock and pop to acclaim and massive respect for his innovative work.
In the 1970s, Beck worked with Beatles producer George Martin on jazz-fusion albums that redefined the rock guitar, before moving into electronic music with keyboardist Jan Hammer.
On recent albums, he has worked with electronica outfit Apollo 440 and David Torn from New York trip-hop group Splattercell. To underline his eclectic admirers, Joss Stone and Imogen Heap joined Beck on stage at London’s Ronnie Scott’s club last year.
In February, Beck will play with Eric Clapton at two historic joint performances at Japan’s Saitama Super Arena.
Jeff Beck:
“I have known Harvey for a long time and we met again at the Classic Rock awards at the end of last year.
“Soon after I decided I wanted a change in my career so I approached Harvey in December. It’s a great team and we have big plans, including new material and more performances.”
Harvey Goldsmith:
“I have always thought that Jeff is an incredible musician. I’ve worked with him many times over the years.
“Jeff asked me to dinner, where he told me he wanted a change in his working life. He said that he wanted to perform more and look for new opportunities. I thought about it overnight and felt that I could be of help. I’m very excited about working with Jeff, it will be a great partnership.
“He is raring to go and his band are incredible, just brilliant. There should be a new album by the end of the year and who knows where we can go with that.”
Jeff Beck’s band are an extraordinary outfit. Tal Wilkenfeld is a 20 year old Australian bass prodigy, while drummer Vinnie Colaiuta is reputed to be best drummer in the world. Keyboardist David Sancious was in Bruce Springsteen’s original E Street Band and has played with everyone from Sting to Yousou Ndour.
Jeff Beck’s DVD and Blu-Ray “Performing This Week… Live At Ronnie Scott’s” is released March 30th by Eagle Rock. A celebration of his acclaimed five nights of gigs last year, it features guests Joss Stone and Imogen Heap, as well as Clapton. The CD version is out now.
Jeff Beck’s agents remain Phil Banfield at Coda in the UK and Rob Light at CAA in the USA.

RUSH REVEALS “RETROSPECTIVE III”
January 25, 2009 by Your Way To Music
Anthem/Atlantic recording group Rush has announced details of the upcoming third volume in its continuing compilation series. “RETROSPECTIVE III (1989-2008)” arrives in stores on March 2nd in the UK (and March 3rd in North America).
The collection – available as both individual CD and two disc CD/DVD set – features tracks culled from the legendary trio’s two decades with Atlantic Records, spanning such acclaimed studio works as 1989′s “PRESTO,” 1991′s “ROLL THE BONES,” 1993′s “COUNTERPARTS,” 1996′s “TEST FOR ECHO,” 2002′s “VAPOR TRAILS,” and 2007′s “SNAKES & ARROWS” (see tracklisting details below).
In addition, “RETROSPECTIVE III” features a previously unreleased live version of the classic “Ghost of a Chance,” recorded live in Atlanta during Rush’s 2008 “Snakes & Arrows Tour,” as well as two tracks – “One Little Victory” and “Earthshine” – newly remixed by the band’s Alex Lifeson and master mixer Richard Chycki (Aerosmith, Mick Jagger, P. Diddy).
The “RETROSPECTIVE III” DVD gathers the band’s 10 stunning music videos during the Atlantic years, including clips for fan favorites such as “The Pass,” “Roll The Bones,” “Stick It Out,” “Driven,” and the Grammy Award-nominated “Malignant Narcissism.” What’s more, the DVD includes a trio of live videos filmed in Frankfurt, Germany during Rush’s 2004 “R30: 30th Anniversary World Tour,” highlighted by a masterful performance of The Who’s classic “The Seeker” (originally recorded by Rush for 2004′s “FEEDBACK”). As an added bonus, the band has included a rare televised performance of the classic “Tom Sawyer” and an on-camera interview featuring all three members.
Both the CD and CD/DVD versions of “RETROSPECIVE III” are available now for pre-order at www.rush.com/preorder. A “Deluxe Rush Fan Pack” is also being offered, combining the CD/DVD package with a limited edition lithograph highlighting the albums featured on “RETROSPECTIVE III.” The first 100 orders will receive an ultra-rare signed lithograph.
In other news, Rush has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Rock Instrumental Performance for the track, “Hope (Live For The Art Of Peace,” the band’s contribution to the “SONGS FOR TIBET: THE ART OF PEACE” compilation.
Rush – Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart – is without question one of the most inventive and compelling groups in rock history, equally famed for both its virtuoso musicianship and provocative songwriting. A career-chronicling Rolling Stone feature published last year praised the band for its continuing artistic vitality, noting that “It’s true that Rush doesn’t mean today what it did in ’76 or even ’96. It may mean more.“
Since releasing their self-titled debut album in 1974, Rush have achieved worldwide sales exceeding 35 million units, including such acclaimed works as 1976′s “2112,” 1981′s “MOVING PICTURES,” 1996′s “TEST FOR ECHO,” and 2002′s “VAPOR TRAILS.” The band’s most recent studio collection, 2007′s “SNAKES & ARROWS,” made a triumphant debut on the Billboard 200 upon its initial release, entering the chart in the #3 spot. The album’s success marked Rush’s highest chart debut since 1993, as well as the group’s eleventh top ten album in America.
Rush celebrated with the epic “Snakes & Arrows Live Tour,” captured for posterity on the two-CD live set, “SNAKES & ARROWS LIVE,” released last spring. The collection’s release was followed by a rare national television performance and interview on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” – the renowned rock trio’s first television appearance since 1975. Rush ended 2008 on a high note with the November release of the “SNAKES & ARROWS LIVE” DVD set, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Music Video chart.

MORRISSEY’S ‘YEARS OF REFUSAL’ FEATURES JEFF BECK
January 24, 2009 by Your Way To Music
Filed under New Releases - CD's
Morrissey will release “Years of Refusal” in the UK on February 16 and the US February 17, 2009 on Attack/Lost Highway. “Years of Refusal” will be Morrissey’s first studio album since 2006’s UK #1 “Ringleader of the Tormentors”. In February, Morrissey will begin the US leg of his world tour that includes rare intimate club dates.
The late Jerry Finn, who previously worked on 2004’s critical and commercial smash “You Are the Quarry”, produced “Years of Refusal” which is the last album he worked on. The single “I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris”, which Morrissey debuted during his sold out 2007 world tour, will precede the album. Long time band members Boz Boorer, Jesse Tobias, Matt Walker, and Solomon Walker play on the album, which also features a contribution from Jeff Beck on the track “Black Cloud”.
Morrissey is often recognized as the most important British musician of his generation. The New York Times recently stated, ”Morrissey isn’t just any singer: he has become one of the defining rock stars of the past few decades by virtue of his grand voice, his grander songs, and his charming habit of playing with melodrama”. His influence is felt worldwide through the countless artists that cite him as their primary inspiration. “Years of Refusal” is a masterful work that finds Morrissey and the band at their best with a muscular sound and the inimitable voice and lyrics of a legend.

This tremendous 1992 documentary details the full story of the massively influential Brit Blues combo The Yardbirds. Not only were they the band that provided the launch pad for three of the finest exponents of the Rock guitar – namely Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, the band also enjoyed several massive chart hits and spearheaded the art of guitar-led Blues improvisation.
With contributions from all of the extant members of the band, this documentary is underscored with some dazzling performance footage, with clips taken from shows all around the world – including rare performances from Belgian, German and Dutch TV, as well as film from the Windsor Jazz and Blues Festival. It provides a vivid snapshot of one of the greatest bands of the 1960s. Jimmy Page would go on to form The New Yardbirds, who would eventually be named Led Zeppelin.
The Yardbirds – these days featuring original members Jim McCarty and Chris Dréja, toured the UK earlier this year with The Zombies, of course, and remain one of the most popular bands on the UK gig circuit.

MILES DAVIS LIVE IN GERMANY 1987 DVD
January 23, 2009 by Your Way To Music
Filed under New Releases - DVD/Blu-ray
Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to announce the release on DVD of Miles Davis “That’s What Happened – Live In Germany 1987” [Cat No EREDV731] on 13 April 2009. This is a sought after and previously unreleased Miles Davis concert, and the footage includes two rare cover versions.
This concert, filmed in Munich in 1987, followed the release of his Grammy Award winning album Tutu and the set list features two tracks from that record, the title track and “Portia”, plus his unique arrangements of Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature” and Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time”.
From the mid-fifties to his death in the early nineties, Miles Davis was universally recognised as one of the most innovative musicians working in Jazz. He was also one of the most popular with his albums regularly breaking into the pop charts and he picked up a total of eight Grammy Awards. He also launched the careers of many Jazz musicians including Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Billy Cobham, John McLaughlin and many more.
TRACKLISTING
1) Medley: One Phone Call / Street Scenes / That’s What Happened 2) New Blues 3) Human Nature 4) Tutu 5) Time After Time 6) Portia
The Bonus Features on this release offer up a 30 minute interview with Miles Davis filmed in 1987, and also a feature on Miles and his Art.
Both “genius” and “legend” are words often bandied around all too eagerly to describe musicians but, for such a talent as Miles Davis, they are the only words that will suffice. “That’s What Happened – Live In Germany 1987” underlines exactly why Davis’ legacy and influence live on.
